Amuru: Good Harvests in Amuru but Strange Livestock Disease Clouds the Joy

Farmers in Amuru district are happy to announce that they enjoyed good harvests from last season. “Pawel parish produced very large quantities of rice and we are looking for buyers,” reports Denis Akena. He identifies himself as a Community Knowledge Worker who gives farmers advisory services with the support of Grameen Foundation a Kampala based NGO.

He however also reports a strange new disease “which leads to swelling of domestic birds and animals.” Akena says that disease which also leads affected animals to lose appetite, become generally weak and eventually die. “One lady has reported to me that her three goats died because of this disease,” he says.
