Marriage, Employment Vs Education

Primary 7 candidates countrywide on Monday and Tuesday sat their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). Reports from Kapchorwa show that they went smoothly for most of the schools there, but for two candidates of Tuban Primary School, it was a different story. Semei Rita Moreen, a 14 year old girl, never got the chance to sit for her exams as she got married to a man from Sironko district. Her story is reminiscent of those that were told in this News-Hapa report (http://news-hapa.com/story/82/). There, sadly, end the dreams of quality education for many girls in rural Uganda. For Chelangat Sam, a 16 year old boy, lack of funds threw a roadblock at him. He was forced to get work at a security company 2 months prior to the exams.

While the rest of the pupils wait anxiously to see what comes of their studies, one cannot help but sympathize with Semei and Chelangat who will always wait anxiously to see what comes of their lives.
