Community School Demolished in Land Disagreement

The community of Lanenober in Lakwana subcounty Gulu district has lost a school it established last year following a disagreement with the community member who owned the land on which it sat.

The community last year rented a piece of land from an elderly resident of the same parish and established a school that went upto primary five. The elderly woman however recently informed the community that she was hard up and needed to sell the land off. Since no agreement to rent the land in subsequent years had been entered, the land owner has since had the community school demolished. The children who attended it will now have to relocate to other schools the nearest of which is 3 kms away from Lanoneber parish.

This report was submitted by Peterson Oola, of Lakwana subcounty in Gulu district.
