Rains Resume in Kapchorwa But Drought Damage Already Done

Musobo Micheal from Kapteret subcounty in Kapchorwa reports to News-Hapa that the rains resumed watering the area two days ago following a month long dry spell. For some farmers therefore, the damage has already been done. Musobo talked to a fellow farmer Chemutai Martin in Kaplelko subcounty who lamented that the dry spell caused his maize crop to get stunted. He was shocked to see that it flowered before it was even tall enough to reach his knees. Chemutai, a father of two, is therefore not expecting to raise even 100 kg of maize harvest from his two acre garden. He is therefore calling on government to intervene especially for lower lying areas of Kapchorwa because he foresees hunger and related deaths in the near future.
