Local Levels Primaries for National Schools' Music, Dance and Drama Competitions Kick off
In the country side, schools have started competing amongst themselves for participation in the annual schools' music, dance and drama competitions. This festival is a week-long major cultural event at the National Theatre here in Kampala at which every district is represented by atleast one choir/student performing group. Readers who have watched the Oscar nominated 2007 documentary - War Dance, will have a fond appreciation of how much it means to a rural kid to emerge among the representatives of their district at this festival. Readers who as children got to perform on the National Theatre stage or even narrowly missed a slot in this festival will need no further explanations from us.
From Orom sub-county in Dokolo district, News-Hapa has received a report from Robert Owake, announcing that Dokolo Primary school as emerged winners of the sub-county level competition beating 8 other schools. Orom Primary School was second. Dokolo Primary School will go on to represent Orom sub-county, competiting against other subcounty winners within Dokolo district. Each school will be hoping to emerge district winner which will then book then a slot at the national festival later in the year.
Similar competitions are undoubtedly happening elsewhere in the country.
