Cattle Thefts on the Rise in Kapchorwa
Two nights ago, five cows were stolen from to a Kapchorwa pastor known as Henry Bushendich. The incident was particularly disconcerting to this pastor because for several years now, some his cows are stolen each year by unknown people and are never recovered. Although the pastor lives in Kululu parish of Kapchorwa district, his farm/kraal is in Tabagonyi parish of Bulambuli district.
This time round, the pastor placed radio announcements on the local FM station – Elton FM, publicising the theft. As a result, the thieves abandoned their loot. The cows were recovered by a group of women who were looking for firewood the following day. The animals had been tethered near a cave in Kapchorwa with their mouths bound with rope to prevent them from making noise.
Micheal Musobo who reports this story to News-Hapa adds that cattle thefts are on the increase in this area – Kapchorwa, Bulambuli, Kween. The communities are actively looking out for and investigating probable thieves
